Becoming an actress:
Krystal Corliss in her own words
My entire life I have wanted to become an entertainer. I know it sounds so cliché but it's true. Throughout my entire highschool career I would tell my teachers, and they would say, "No, what do you really want to do?" And I would tell them the same exact thing over and over. No one has jaded my decision yet, and I am going to make it happen for myself. Who I am to say so?
Well, here we go:
I was born in Laconia NH as Krystal Ann Korliss on March 22, 1983 to Kathie Shuffield (who is a paraleagal) and Raymond Corliss JR (who is a musician). I have a sister (Heather) who is exactly 10 years my elder. I lived in Belmont NH until I was 6 years old when my parents got divorced. While I lived with both of my parents they would put something called "Jam on the Land" on every single summer. That is when I knew I was destined to be an entertainer.
Everytime my father's band was on a break, my sister, cousins and I would get up on the stage and put a Madonna tape in and pretend that we were putting on a concert for everyone. I was always the singer and main attraction - and that´s how things got into shape.
As the years went on I moved to Gilford NH with my mother and step-father. I lived there until I was about 14 years old. It was a really hard thing in my life making that transition. I went from living out in the country being a total tomboy to living on a main road in the perfect suburbia. At that point my mother and step-father started building a new house that was only a few minutes from where I had moved from. I was so excited because I thought that I would be able to move back and be with my old friends. But now when I look back, I'm so happy that I made the move, new friends, and had new experiences. I wouldn't have half what I have now in life if it wasn't for that move.
Finally, in eighth grade I moved to Gilmanton NH with my mother and step-father. That too was a big move, but didn't matter that much because I was still going to the same high school and still with my new bestfriends. High school was fun and easy because I was and always have been a very outgoing, likeable person. Or at least that's what I've been told. High school is also where my major drive started to wanting to become an entertainer. Although, I was never apart of the drama club or did theater. It never interested me that much. Theater was something that I should have done for the experience, but I just didn't want to. Whenever we would have Winter Carnival or something called Stunt Night I was always the one to be in the skits and choreograph dances. If it was something I could be completly hands-on with, I was there.
In June of 2001, I graduated from Gilford High School. I was accepted to the New England Institute of Art and Communications, but decided to deffer for a year. I wanted to experience more than life than just going to school and doing what the typical 18 year old would do. So, I got an agent-portfolio and all of that stuff that I needed to get done so I could get my name out there. I appeared in the February 2001 issues of YM, Seventeen, Cosmo Girl and Alloy. Also I did random modeling around NH and MA.
Since being out of school I have made some important contacts/friends in the entertainment industry including a designer and good friend of mine, Anand Jon. Through Anand I have experienced numerous fashion events, meeting casting directors and finally getting my name known in NYC.
